The Center for Jewish Studies invites applications for the position of PhD Fellow for the academic year 2025-26. The fellow manages logistics and communications for the Working Group in Jewish Studies, which meets biweekly on Fridays (10am-12pm) at the Graduate Center.  The theme for the 2025-26 Working Group is Jewish Migration.

The fellow attends all in-person seminar meetings; regularly communicates with the Working Group’s speakers via email about logistics; collects pre-circulated papers and sends announcements of each talk to the email list; and liaises with the Center’s College Assistant as needed. In addition to these responsibilities, the fellow has the opportunity to present their own research during a meeting.

Compensation is $13,000 for the year, paid in two installments at the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. The time commitment may fluctuate slightly but averages about 4-6 hours per week, including time spent at the seminar meetings.

The fellow will be a GC PhD candidate working in Jewish Studies, Migration, or an adjacent field, in any department. If you are interested in the position, please email a brief cover letter stating your interest, including your dissertation committee, CV, and short dissertation abstract (no more than one page) to [email protected] by March 31. The conveners of the Working Group will select the Fellow by the end of April.
