JOB CALL: JITP Managing Editor

Grad A Fellowship Opportunity – Application Deadline January 15, 2024
The Interactive Technology & Pedagogy doctoral certificate program is seeking a Graduate Center, CUNY doctoral student to receive a one-year renewable Grad A fellowship (or its equivalent). Supported by the fellowship, the student will serve as the Managing Editor of the ITP program’s open, online, peer-reviewed Journal of Interactive Technology & Pedagogy (https://cuny.manifoldapp.org/journals/jitp).
The Managing Editor oversees the workflow of long-form and short-form pieces submitted to JITP, leads meetings of the Editorial Collective, works closely with Issue and Short Section Editors, and works with the Journal’s Web Development and Staging teams to prepare each online issue of the journal. Ideally, candidates will have experience with community organizing, strong communication and project management skills, as well as a passion for open and participatory technology. Prior experience with academic/public journal editing is helpful, though not required. Priority will be given to students who are enrolled in or have completed the ITP program.
Our collective is only as strong as the diversity of its members. We therefore commit to actively foster the full participation of women, people of color, people with disabilities, and others historically excluded from the field as publishing leadership.
Compensation and Benefits
The JITP fellowship requires fellows to work a total of 450 non-teaching hours during the academic year, approximately 15 hours per week. Compensation for the fellowship will be a minimum of $27,374 for the academic year. The Fellowship is paid in two parts: Fellows will be appointed to the Graduate Center payroll as Graduate Assistant Bs (GAB) at their own current rate (the minimum GAB salary is currently $13,215) which pays biweekly through NYS payroll checks and also receive a Provost’s Award in the amount of $14,159 that will be paid through the Office of Financial Aid. The Provost’s Award pays om two lump sum checks, shortly after the start of each semester.
●     The GAB title provides eligibility to purchase the low-cost NYSHIP health insurance as well as in-state tuition remission for fellows who are within their first ten (10) registered semesters of doctoral study.
●     Fellows who are past their tenth registered semesters of doctoral study will be eligible to receive in-state tuition remission at the Level III rate as per the 2017- 2023 PSC-CUNY contract (this benefit provides for this tuition remission for a maximum of four semesters past the student’s 10 th registered semester).
All GC doctoral students are encouraged to apply by sending a letter of interest and a resume via email to the ITP coordinator, Michael Mandiberg, at itp@gc.cuny.edu. Questions about the position may be directed to the current Managing Editor, Patrick DeDauw, at admin@jitpedagogy.org.
The application process will remain open until January 15th, 2024.
We expect to award the fellowship in January 2024 and the fellowship would begin formally in late August 2024. The fellowship will officially begin Fall 2024. Ideally, the new Managing Editor would join the Editorial Collective in advance of their appointment, April 1, to collaborate with the current Managing Editor, and observe the final production stages of JITP’s Issue 24.
