The American Studies Certificate Program will continue its relationship with the Futures of American Studies Institute at Dartmouth College, and that we will be able to sponsor 4 GC students to attend the Futures Institute this summer.

Participation in the Futures institute is an important part of the Certificate Program’s commitment to providing opportunities for intellectual community and professionalization.  Now in its twentieth-second year, the Futures of American Studies Institute is designed to provide a shared space of critical inquiry that brings the participants’ work-in-progress to the attention of a network of influential scholars. In essence, the Futures Institute offers advanced graduate students the opportunity to present their work to some of the leading American Studies scholars, as well as interact with advanced students from doctoral programs across the country.  The faculty participants in this summer’s institute include: Donald E. Pease, Soyica Diggs Colbert, Elizabeth Maddock Dillon, Cindi Katz, Eng-Beng Lim,  Eric W. Lott, Lawrence La Fountain Stokes, Israel Reyes, Karen Jaime, Ricardo Montez, Tavia Nyong’o, Jack Halberstam, Saidiya Hartman, Kyla Wazna Tompkins, Hortense Spillers, Jennifer Stoever, Alexandra Vazquez, Emily Lordi, Sonya Posmentier, Yogita Goyal, Donatella Izzo, Anthony Barrymore Bogues, N.
