January 31, 2019 | Rukshana Jalil Graduate Parent Dialogue February 5th March 5th, March 19th April 2nd, April 16th May 7th, May 21st 3:30pm-4:15pm Room # 3205 This is a drop-in period for GC registered graduate student parents who may be interested in briefly consulting with a former grad parent and psychologist about their experience. Dr. Nicole Benedicto Elden is the Assistant Director and Clinical Psychologist at The Wellness Center’s Student Counseling Service and also a recovering graduate student parent. Some examples of topics we can discuss together; -Dealing with feelings of “not being good enough” as a parent and as a grad student. -Grad Parent concerns in and out of academia. -Balancing parenting, academics, jobs and your relationships. -Coping with chronic sleep deprivation and exhaustion. -Helping your infant and toddler through developmental milestones (i.e. sleep training; eating; toilet training; socialization…etc.). -Developing empathy and collaboration when you and your partner have differing parenting styles and values. -Cultural clashes in parenting. -Understanding your teens and their moods. -When your parents (or in-laws) want to parent your child for you. -When no one in your program “gets it!” -To quit or not to quit (or at least take a leave of absence)?
