I am delighted to extend to you and your colleagues this invitation to attend the 16th Annual CUNY IT Conference, which will take place this year on Thursday, November 30 and Friday, December 1 at John Jay College. I hope you will join me in attending. Registration is free for members of the CUNY community and is also critical for gauging capacity. The theme for the conference is “Instructional/Information Technology at CUNY: Opening Access.” Presentations address “access” in its multiple meanings, ranging from economic access to higher education to ADA compliance to open course materials and more. The result is a program rich in thoughtful approaches and useful information.
As with prior conferences, there will also be two keynotes this year. The Thursday afternoon keynote (just before the CUNY Technology Awards) will feature Safiya Umoja Noble of the University of Southern California Annenberg School of Communication, who will address “Navigating the Affordances and Consequences of the Internet for Education.” The mid-day Friday keynote speaker will be Anthony Picciano, from the Graduate Center’s Urban Education Ph.D. program, and author of Online Education Policy and Practice: The Past, Present, and Future of the Digital University. He will reflect on instructional technology at CUNY over the course of his career and its potential in coming decades.
The Conference begins with check-in at 12 pm on November 30, followed by two sets of concurrent presentations, Safiya Umoja Noble’s keynote at 3:30 pm, and the CUNY Technology Awards presentation at 4:30 pm. On December 1, registrants are welcomed with a continental breakfast at 8:30 am, followed by concurrent sessions at 9:30 am, remarks by the Chancellor and keynote by Anthony Picciano at 10:45 am, lunch, two more sets of concurrent sessions, and then the end-of-day drawing for prizes offered up by the vendors.
